About Crestron

Headquartered in Rockleigh, New Jersey, Crestron engineers integrated lighting, shading, HVAC, and AV control platforms used by MEP consulting engineers, commissioning agents, and corporate workplace technology standards groups across North America, EMEA, and APAC.

Our practice begins with a written sequence of operations, a complete BACnet/IP and Cresnet point list, and a Title 24 §140.6 / ASHRAE 90.1 §9.4 compliance checklist before a single CLW-DIMUEX dimmer or CHV-TSTAT-CWS thermostat is specified, so AV consultants and BMS integrators receive a controls package that survives bid scrubs and field commissioning.

Company Story / vertical timeline

About Crestron: company story for real project decisions

Founded in 1972 by George Feldstein, Crestron grew from a custom remote-control workshop into the controls platform behind Fortune 100 corporate campuses, Ivy League universities, and federal courthouses, delivering 4-Series PRO3 control processors that arbitrate occupancy, vacancy, daylight, and demand-response signals on the same Cresnet trunk that drives lighting and shading.

1972 — Founding

Originated as a custom controls house in Rockleigh; the first programmable dimming controller predates DALI by two decades and established our IP-based architecture roadmap.

1990s — Cresnet

Released the proprietary Cresnet 4-wire bus that still carries power, RS-485 data, and topology-free wiring to Horizon Keypads in retrofit projects today.

2010s — IP & DALI-2

Migrated the platform onto BACnet/IP with native DALI-2 driver support, allowing MEP engineers to merge lighting, BMS, and AV onto a single managed VLAN.

2020s — Crestron Home OS

Unified residential and commercial programming under Crestron Home OS and SmartGraphics UI, with cloud-based commissioning logs that satisfy IECC §C405 functional testing requirements.

Values / three column cards

About Crestron: values for real project decisions

Engineering rigor shapes every release: a controls package leaves Rockleigh only after the sequence of operations has been graphically simulated against ASHRAE 90.1 §9.4 mandatory shutoff and §9.4.1.1(g) automatic daylight zones, and after Horizon Keypad button labels have been reviewed by the AV consultant assigned to the project.

Specification fidelity

Submittal drawings list exact CLW-DIMUEX, GLA-PWS, and CHV-TSTAT-CWS part numbers with firmware revisions so the commissioning agent can verify field devices against the spec line-by-line.

Open-protocol stance

Native BACnet/IP, KNX, and DALI-2 drivers ship in firmware so a campus facilities team can integrate Crestron with Siemens Desigo, Honeywell Niagara, or Johnson Metasys without gateway licensing surprises.

UL 924 emergency

Every relay panel and emergency lighting interface carries UL 924 listing for code-compliant egress, with bypass test schedules generated automatically by the 4-Series PRO3 controller.

Lifecycle commissioning

SmartGraphics UI and cloud commissioning logs preserve point-by-point trend data so a workplace tech standards group can audit lighting energy savings five years after substantial completion.

Team Grid / photo cards

About Crestron: team grid for real project decisions

The Lighting & Energy Solutions group is staffed by licensed PEs, NCQLP-certified lighting professionals (LC), and CTS-D AV systems designers who sit beside MEP firms during design development to translate IES recommended practice into a deployable point list on the 4-Series PRO3 controller.

Lighting Solutions PE

Reviews sequence of operations against ASHRAE 90.1 §9.4 and IECC §C405; signs off on relay panel single-line diagrams before factory load testing.

DALI-2 commissioning lead

Walks the project with the commissioning agent, addresses every DALI driver short-address conflict, and uploads the as-commissioned DT8 colour-tunable scenes to Crestron XiO Cloud.

BMS/BAS integration architect

Maps BACnet/IP objects to the BAS controller, negotiates VLAN segregation with IT, and validates priority-array writes from Niagara, Desigo, or Metasys.

AV consultant liaison

Coordinates Horizon Keypad engraving, SmartGraphics UI dashboards, and shading group logic so AV consultants do not have to chase lighting changes during punch-list.

Certifications Bar / logo row

About Crestron: certifications bar for real project decisions

Listings and protocol certifications carried by the current 4-Series, CLW, GLA, and CHV product families let a specification team paste exact line items into the controls section of a CSI MasterFormat 26 09 23 specification without redlining.

UL 924 listed

Relay panels and emergency lighting interfaces hold UL 924 file E183670 for life-safety circuits, supporting NFPA 101 §7.9 emergency illumination paths.

BTL & DALI-2 certified

BACnet B-BC profile certified by BTL Lab; DALI-2 driver and application controller certificates issued by DiiA for DT6, DT8 (Tc and XY), and D4i.

Title 24 JA8 partner

Drivers and luminaire-mounted sensors comply with California Title 24 §140.6, JA8 high-efficacy criteria, and demand-response signal handling per OpenADR 2.0b.

FedRAMP & TAA

XiO Cloud is FedRAMP-authorised at Moderate impact level; controllers ship TAA-compliant for GSA-schedule federal courthouse and DoD campus projects.
